1. Losing the Anchor of Purpose

Religion gives life meaning beyond survival and pleasure. Allah says: “And I did not create jinn and mankind except to worship Me.” [Qur’an 51:56].

When faith is abandoned, people chase temporary pursuits, leaving the soul restless and directionless.

2. Modesty as the First Shield to Fall

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Every religion has its distinct characteristic, and the distinct characteristic of Islam is modesty (ḥayā’).” [Sunan Ibn Mājah, 4181; Sahih].

When religion is dismissed, modesty erodes—first in speech, then in dress, and eventually in behavior.

3. Normalization of Shamelessness

Allah warns: “Do not approach immoralities—what is apparent of them and what is concealed.” [Qur’an 6:151].

Without religious restraint, indecency becomes normalized, celebrated, and even marketed as freedom.

4. Rise of Arrogance and Self-Worship

Faith teaches humility before Allah. Rejecting it often breeds arrogance, where the self becomes the ultimate authority. Allah says: “Have you seen the one who takes as his god his own desire?” [Qur’an 45:23].

This self-idolization fuels moral corruption.

5. Breakdown of Family Structure

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Marriage is part of my sunnah, and whoever does not follow my sunnah has nothing to do with me. Get married, for I will boast of your great numbers before the nations. Whoever has the means, let him get married, and whoever does not, then he should fast for it will diminish his desire.” [Sunan Ibn Mājah, 1846; Sahih].

When religion is abandoned, marriage and family lose sanctity, replaced by temporary pleasures that erode trust and stability.

6. Exploitation and Injustice Flourish

Religion restrains greed and commands fairness. Allah says: “Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice.” [Qur’an 4:58].

Without divine accountability, exploitation becomes widespread.

7. Mental and Emotional Instability

Faith provides inner peace. Allah says: “Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” [Qur’an 13:28].

When faith is rejected, anxiety, emptiness, and despair often rise, as people lack spiritual grounding.

8. Loss of Accountability and Conscience

Belief in the Hereafter restrains wrongdoing. Allah says: “So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.” [Qur’an 99:7-8].

When this is denied, people justify harm with no fear of consequence.

Conclusion

As modesty falls, desires dominate, justice weakens, and families crumble, the society itself begins to rot.
