Children are among the most vulnerable to the evil eye because of their innocence, beauty, purity, and the frequent admiration they receive.

The Prophet ﷺ took special care to protect children from spiritual harm, and Islam provides clear, powerful means for parents to shield their children through du‘ā, remembrance, concealment of blessings, and reliance upon Allah.

Protecting children from the evil eye is not fear-based parenting. It is faith-based safeguarding rooted in tawḥīd and daily spiritual habits.

How to Shield Your Children From the Evil Eye?

1. Believe With Certainty That the Evil Eye Can Affect Children

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The evil eye is real.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari 5740 | Sahih Muslim 2188]

Acknowledging this reality allows parents to stay spiritually alert without becoming paranoid. Denial removes protection. Awareness activates it.

2. Use the Exact Du‘ā the Prophet ﷺ Used for Children

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek Refuge with Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain and say: "Your forefather (i.e. Abraham) used to seek Refuge with Allah for Ishmael and Isaac by reciting the following: 'O Allah! I seek Refuge with Your Perfect Words from every devil and from poisonous pests and from every evil, harmful, envious eye.' "
[Sahih al-Bukhari 3371]

This exact du‘ā should be recited regularly over children, especially in the morning, evening, and before sleep.

3. Recite the Mu‘awwidhāt Over Your Children Daily

The Prophet ﷺ would recite:
قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ
قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ
over himself and his family for protection.

These sūrahs protect from envy, harm, jinn, and the evil eye when recited consistently.

4. Teach Your Children to Say “Mā shā’ Allāh”

Allah teaches this directly in the Qur’an:
وَلَوْلَا إِذْ دَخَلْتَ جَنَّتَكَ قُلْتَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
“Why, when you entered your garden, did you not say, ‘Mā shā’ Allāh, there is no power except with Allah’?”
[Qur’an 18:39]

Children should be taught to say “Mā shā’ Allāh” when they see blessings in themselves and others.

5. Avoid Publicly Displaying Every Blessing

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Seek help in fulfilling your needs by keeping them hidden.”
[al-Ṭabarānī | Hasan]

Oversharing children’s achievements, beauty, health, and milestones exposes them unnecessarily to envy and admiration.

6. Keep Children in a State of Regular Purity

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Only a believer consistently maintains wudū’.”
[Sunan Ibn Mājah 277 | Hasan]

Teaching children wudū’ from a you
ng age strengthens both physical and spiritual protection.

7. Strengthen Protection Through Prayer

Allah says:
“Indeed, prayer restrains from immorality and wrongdoing.”
[Qur’an 29:45]

A child who grows up consistent in prayer grows up under consistent spiritual protection.

8. Protect Children From Envious Environments

Not every space is spiritually safe. Constant exposure to comparison, competition, and display of luxury increases vulnerability to envy and the evil eye.

9. Avoid Excessive Praise in Public

The Prophet ﷺ disliked exaggerated praise. Excessive admiration invites envy from others and fosters arrogance in the child.

10. Perform Ruqyah If You Suspect Harm

The Prophet ﷺ approved of ruqyah as long as it contains no shirk.
[Sahih Muslim 2200]

Ruqyah includes reciting al-Fātiḥah, Āyat al-Kursī, the Mu‘awwidhāt, and sincere du‘ā over the child.

11. Strengthen the Child’s Tawḥīd Early

Allah says:
“If Allah touches you with harm, none can remove it except Him.”
[Qur’an 6:17]

When children grow up knowing only Allah controls harm and protection, their fear of people diminishes.

12. Rely Upon Allah Without Fear or Obsession

Allah says:
“Say, nothing will ever befall us except what Allah has written for us.”
[Qur’an 9:51]

True protection is not in rituals alone, but in unwavering trust in Allah.

Shielding your children from the evil eye is not about isolating them from the world.

It is about surrounding them with du‘ā, remembrance, modest exposure, and reliance upon Allah.

A child raised under Allah’s protection walks through the world unseen by harm even when seen by people.
