Below are authentic duʿāʾ and prophetic supplications from the Sunnah that are directly connected to anger, emotional control, distress, and inner agitation. Each is written word for word, with Arabic text, English translation, and source, as requested.
10 Duʿāʾ for Anger From the Sunnah
1. Seeking Refuge From Shayṭān During Anger
“I seek refuge in Allah from Shayṭān, the accursed.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari, 3282 | Sahih Muslim, 2610]
The Prophet ﷺ explicitly instructed this duʿāʾ when anger arises.
2. Duʿāʾ for Removing Distress and Anger
“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, from weakness and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, and from being overwhelmed by debt and overpowered by men.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari, 6369]
Anger often grows from these inner pressures.
3. Duʿāʾ When Overwhelmed by Emotion
“O Allah, it is Your mercy that I hope for, so do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye. Rectify all of my affairs. There is no deity except You.”
[Sunan Abi Dawud, 5090 | Hasan]
4. Duʿāʾ for a Calm and Guided Heart
“O Allah, guide my heart and keep my tongue firm.”
[Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 3551 | Sahih]
This duʿāʾ was taught by the Prophet ﷺ for moments when emotions risk turning into harmful speech.
5. Duʿāʾ for Protection From Harmful Character Traits
“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from reprehensible character, deeds, and desires.”
[Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 3591 | Sahih]
Anger is directly linked to destructive character when left unchecked.
6. Duʿāʾ for Emotional Stability and Right Guidance
“O Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts toward Your obedience.”
[Sahih Muslim, 2654]
Anger is a heart-state, and this duʿāʾ directly addresses it.
7. Duʿāʾ for Removal of Inner Turmoil
(They say): “Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower.”
[Qur’an 2:8]
8. Duʿāʾ for Relief When the Chest Feels Tight
“O Allah, expand my chest.”
[Qur’an 20:25]
Anger often comes from constriction of the chest; this duʿāʾ asks Allah to remove it.
9. Duʿāʾ the Prophet ﷺ Used Frequently for Emotional Balance
“O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and sufficiency.”
[Sahih Muslim, 2721]
Anger weakens when the heart is grounded in taqwā and sufficiency.
10. Duʿāʾ for Mercy and Softness of Heart
“O Allah, forgive my sins, expand my home for me, and bless my provision.”
[Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 3500 | Hasan]
Anger often intensifies when forgiveness, space, and barakah feel absent.
Anger in Islam is not denied — it is guided. The Prophet ﷺ did not tell people to suppress emotion, but to redirect it through duʿāʾ, remembrance, and refuge in Allah.
These duʿāʾ are not just words. They are tools of regulation, taught by the Prophet ﷺ himself. Repeating them consistently — especially before anger explodes — transforms emotional struggle into worship.
