Things going wrong is not a sign Allah has left you. It is where trust is tested. Tawakkul is not passive waiting. It is doing what you can while accepting what Allah chooses.
How to Trust Allah ʿazza wa jal When Things Go Wrong?
1. Separate Effort From Outcome
Allah says:
“And whoever relies upon Allah, then He is sufficient for him.”
[Qur’an 65:3]
Your job is effort. The result is not yours to control.
2. Accept That Not Everything Is Meant to Work
Allah says:
“But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you…”
[Qur’an 2:216]
What goes wrong may be protection, not loss.
3. Stop Replaying “What If”
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“and if anything (in the form of trouble) comes to you, don't say: If I had not done that, it would not have happened so and so, but say: Allah did that what He had ordained to do and your" if" opens the (gate) for the Satan.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2664]
Regret without action weakens trust.
4. Keep Acting Instead of Freezing
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Be keen on what benefits you, seek help from Allah, and do not give up.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2664]
Tawakkul includes movement, not avoidance.
5. Return to Ṣalāh First
Allah says:
“Seek help through patience and prayer.”
[Qur’an 2:45]
When things go wrong, anchor yourself in prayer before reacting.
6. Control Your First Reaction
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Ṣabr is at the first strike of calamity.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1302 | Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 926]
Trust starts with how you respond immediately.
7. Expect That Tests Are Part of the Path
Allah says:
“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger…”
[Qur’an 2:155]
Tests are not interruptions. They are part of the process.
8. Make Duʿāʾ About What Actually Hurts
The Prophet ﷺ taught:
“O Allah, there is no ease except what You make easy.”
[Sunan Ibn Ḥibbān 974 | Ṣaḥīḥ]
Be direct. Ask for real help.
9. Look at What Remains, Not Only What Was Lost
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“If anyone of you looked at a person who was made superior to him in property and (in good) appearance, then he should also look at the one who is inferior to him.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6490]
Perspective protects your trust.
Things going wrong does not mean everything is wrong.
It means you are being asked to trust without seeing the full picture.
