Loving Allah ʿazza wa jal is not just a feeling you talk about. It shows in what you choose, what you leave, and how you live every day.
What It Means to Love Allah in Real Life?
1. You Follow What He Commands
Allah says:
“Say, if you love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you.”
[Qur’an 3:31]
Love is proven by following the Prophet ﷺ, not just claiming it.
2. You Choose Obedience Over Comfort
Allah says:
“And those who believe are stronger in their love for Allah.”
[Qur’an 2:165]
Real love shows when obedience is hard but you still choose it.
3. You Leave Sin Even When No One Is Watching
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“I certainly know people of my nation who will come on the Day of Resurrection with good deeds like the mountains of Tihamah, but Allah will make them like scattered dust.” Thawban said: “O Messenger of Allah, describe them to us and tell us more, so that we will not become of them unknowingly.” He said: “They are your brothers and from your race, worshipping at night as you do, but they will be people who, when they are alone, transgress the sacred limits of Allah.”
[Sunan Ibn Mājah 4245 | Ṣaḥīḥ]
They avoided sin in public but not in private.
Love means you care about Allah’s view, not people’s.
4. You Remember Him Throughout the Day
Allah says:
“Remember Me, I will remember you.”
[Qur’an 2:152]
Love keeps someone in your thoughts. Dhikr reflects that.
5. You Turn to Him First When You Need Help
Allah says:
“And when My servants ask you about Me, I am near.”
[Qur’an 2:186]
Love means you rely on Him, not only when things go wrong, but always.
6. You Accept His Decree Without Resentment
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“I am pleased with Allah as my Lord…”
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 386]
You may feel pain, but you do not object to His wisdom.
7. You Prioritize What Brings You Closer to Him
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“And the most beloved things with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him...”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6502]
Love focuses on what Allah loves most first.
8. You Feel Discomfort When You Distance Yourself
When you miss:
- Ṣalāh
- Dhikr
- Qur’an
You feel it. That discomfort is a sign of love.
9. You Love What Allah Loves and Dislike What He Dislikes
Your values start to align with:
- Truth
- Justice
- Modesty
- Obedience
Not just personal preference.
10. You Keep Returning No Matter What
Allah says:
“Indeed, Allah loves those who constantly repent.”
[Qur’an 2:222]
Love does not mean you never fall.
It means you never stay away.
Loving Allah is not:
Just words
Just emotion
It is:
Obedience
Loyalty
Consistency
You know you love Allah when your choices change, not just your words.
