Success in Islam is not measured by how much you gain in this life, but by where you stand with Allah ʿazza wa jal and where you end up after death.
What True Success Looks Like in Islam?
1. Success Is Being Saved From the Fire and Entering Jannah
Allah says:
فَمَن زُحْزِحَ عَنِ النَّارِ وَأُدْخِلَ الْجَنَّةَ فَقَدْ فَازَ
“Whoever is kept away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has truly succeeded.”
[Qur’an 3:185]
Everything else is temporary. This is the real outcome.
2. Success Begins With Īmān and Obedience
Allah says:
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ
“Successful are the believers.”
[Qur’an 23:1]
Belief is not just words. It shows in actions.
3. Success Is Guarding Your Ṣalāh
Allah says:
الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَوَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
“Those who guard their prayers.”
[Qur’an 23:9]
Your prayer is the backbone of your life.
4. Success Is Controlling Yourself When It Is Hard
Allah says:
وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ
“And restrained the soul from desire.”
[Qur’an 79:40]
Real success is choosing discipline over impulse.
5. Success Is Purifying Your Heart
Allah says:
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا
“He has succeeded who purifies it.”
[Qur’an 91:9]
Work on your character, not just your image.
6. Success Is Not Being Controlled by Dunya
Allah says:
وَمَا الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا مَتَاعُ الْغُرُورِ
“The worldly life is nothing but temporary enjoyment of delusion.”
[Qur’an 3:185]
Use dunya. Do not let it use you.
7. Success Is Staying Consistent, Not Perfect
The Prophet ﷺ said:
أَحَبُّ الْأَعْمَالِ إِلَى اللَّهِ أَدْوَمُهَا وَإِنْ قَلَّ
“The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are consistent, even if small.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 783]
Small daily actions matter more than occasional effort.
8. Success Is Having a Good Ending
The Prophet ﷺ said:
إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالْخَوَاتِيمِ
“Actions are judged by their endings.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6607]
How you finish matters more than how you start.
9. Success Is Allah’s Pleasure Above Everything
Allah says:
وَرِضْوَانٌ مِّنَ اللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ
“And the pleasure of Allah is greater.”
[Qur’an 9:72]
Even Jannah is not greater than Allah’s pleasure.
10. Success Is Living With Purpose Every Day
Allah says:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
“And I did not create jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”
[Qur’an 51:56]
Success is aligning your life with why you were created.
Success is not:
Money
Status
Recognition
It is:
Īmān
Obedience
A good ending
You can win in this life and still lose everything.
Or struggle here and succeed completely.
